Automations

Schedule recurring agent tasks

Automations run an agent prompt on a schedule in a project. Use them for recurring reviews, maintenance or checks, then inspect the results in Emdash.

Create an automation

  1. Open Automations in the sidebar and create an automation.
  2. Choose a name, project and cron schedule.
  3. Set the prompt, agent and available provider options.
  4. Choose a new worktree, existing workspace or repository root.
  5. Enable the schedule, or use Run now to try it immediately.

Use a new worktree when each run should have isolated changes. Existing workspaces and the repository root share their files with other work in that directory.

Where it runs

Automations run on the project's machine. For remote projects, the Workspace Server owns scheduling and execution. Keep the machine and runtime running, with the agent authenticated and required tools available.

A remote schedule doesn't require the desktop to remain connected. Steps that need desktop-backed credentials or services still depend on those being available. A stopped machine cannot execute a scheduled run.

Review runs

Open an automation to inspect run history, timing, status and errors, then open the associated task or conversation to review its work. You can convert a run into a regular task in the task list.

Pause an automation to stop future scheduled runs. Check failed runs for setup, authentication or agent errors before running it again.
